Harvard University has initiated a lawsuit against the Trump administration concerning the cancellation of international student enrollments, cautioning about a disastrous effect on its programs.
Harvard University has launched a legal challenge against the Trump administration following President Donald Trumpโs action to strip the Ivy League institution of its capacity to enroll international students.
In a filing submitted to the federal court in Boston, Harvard labeled the cancellation a โstark violationโ of the US Constitution and other national statutes, alerting to an โinstant and catastrophic consequenceโ for the university and over 7,000 visa holders.
โWith the simple signing of a document, the government has attempted to wipe out a quarter of Harvardโs student population, international scholars who play an integral role in the institution and its vision,โ Harvard declared.

The university further asserted that this action constituted โthe most recent demonstration by the government in clear reprisal for Harvard exercising its First Amendment privileges to refuse the governmentโs pressures to dictate Harvardโs governance, curriculum, and the โphilosophyโ of its faculty and students.โ
This decision followed Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noemโs order on Thursday to revoke Harvardโs Student and Exchange Visitor Program certification, effective for the 2025-2026 academic year. Noem accused Harvard of โpromoting violence, antisemitism, and collaborating with the Chinese Communist Party.โ
Harvard currently hosts nearly 6,800 international students, comprising 27 percent of its entire student population, as per university statistics.
The institution indicated that the revocation would compel it to withdraw thousands of acceptances and has thrown โnumerousโ academic initiatives, clinics, courses, and research facilities into turmoil, just days ahead of graduation.
